11:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m

Henry Bloch Fountain

Front of Union Station • Main & Pershing

Kansas City visitors and families will have a unique opportunity to learn about the fountains that make our city special.  To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the City of Fountains Foundation has organized this first-ever event, designed to showcase local fountains and encourage contributions for several that need immediate repairs.

Preceding the Festival, hundreds of bike riders from all over the metropolitan area will be participating in the annual "Ride the Fountains" bicycle tour that begins in staggered starts at 8:00 a.m. and concludes around 11:00 a.m.  Participates can get an up-close and personal look at many of Kansas City's fountains with 10, 24, 46 mile routes.  Afterward there will be music and refreshments for the riders.  For more information or to register, visit www.ridethefountains.com.

At 1:00 p.m. the Marching Cobras will herald a special ceremony that will include a brief history of the City of Fountains Foundation, introduction of guests, and recognition of Festival sponsors and contributors.  Plans for the day include trolleys that will leave the Station every 20 minutes, taking visitors on 45 minute guided tours to many Kansas City fountains. Riders will enjoy seeing artists painting on site at the fountains that are in need of immediate repair. Their finished work will be available for purchase.

Activities will include a Lego  interactive exhibit,  Science City projects, the Zoomobile, animals from Lakeside Nature Center, and a Power-Point show of Kansas City fountains.  Children will enjoy a Fountains Activity Book designed by a local teacher especially for the occasion. The entertainment stage will feature El Grupo Mexican Dancers, the Starlight Stars, Ailey the Group, the Junior Ballet and DJ Slavi Dillane. Local radio station, Alice 102.1 will broadcast live from the event. Vendors will offer food and drink.

With the help of many contributors and volunteers, we will introduce the visitors at the KC Festival of Fountains to the beauty of our fountains and the need to assist the Kansas City Parks Department in their efforts to maintain them for all to enjoy.
