Wild Flower

November 27, 2016

Location:  Civic Center Park, E Santa Fe Street between N Chestnut Street and N Water Street, Olathe, KS

Owner:  City of Olathe

Artist:  Mike Sneller

Dates:  Installed at original location April 16, 2012; Relocated 2014

Medium:  Steel, stainless steel

The artist, Mike Sneller, wanted to show off his preferred medium, steel.  Steel is a materal that comes from the earth.  The artist wanted to show the steel erupting forth from the earth in the strong, exuberant form of a flower.  The leaves and stems are made from steel while the blossoms are made from stainless steel.

This sculpture was originally installed in front of Parkview Manor at 300 N Chestnut in Olathe.  When the downtown revitalization project that resulted in Civic Center Park was completed in 2014, it was moved to its new home in the north half of the park next to the reflecting pool.  It is also across the street to the east from Olathe City Hall.
